Stop Starting Budgets

Since last we spoke I’ve…

  1. Celebrated Christmas with my wife and four kids

  2. Written a good of my forthcoming book (more will be revealed soon)

  3. Nearly overdosed on Christmas morning cinnamon rolls

Now to the sheets…

I made a thing. It’s an upgraded version of something I’ve been using for over 10 years: my personal finance tracker.

It’s not a budget, nor does it pretend to be. But, I’ve found it to be just as useful and much more accessible.

Most of what I see in this realm are very complicated spreadsheets full of tabs and charts and calculations. It’s all great, but it begs the question:

Would I actually use it?

Usually the answer is no.

This sheet is different by design. It doesn’t import anything automatically; it forces me and my wife to be active participants in our finances. We track where everything goes - usually daily.

The setup is simple; you’re up and running in minutes. And it is very straightforward.

I’ve got an analytics dashboard too, but it’s just the things you actually care about rather than the vanity metrics that make other dashboards look fancier than they are.
